Findings of the NOAA/NESDIS and NASA Independent Review Team (IRT)

NOAA/NESDIS and NASA appreciate the findings of the Independent Review Team (IRT) and concur with its assessment that NOAA's next-generation Joint Polar Satellite System and GOES-R satellite programs are of the utmost value to our nation to protect life and property from severe weather events.

Since the initial report was released in September, 2012, NOAA and NASA have addressed the IRT's 23 recommendations and made critical progress to improve oversight of these future satellite programs - from containing costs to identifying and mitigating risks.

We will continue to take their recommendations seriously to ensure the strength and viability of our satellite operations for years to come.
