Other Operational Users

JPSS data is also accessible to other agencies within the federal government and international agencies through NOAA open access policies. They include NASA, the Department of Defense (DOD), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Department of Agriculture and the US Forest Service. Monitoring the dynamic environment for changes in weather, land use and vegetation, the ocean and coastal communities is of paramount importance. NOAA and JPSS work closely with users to best meet their product requirements and communicate the new capabilities of future satellite systems. Agreements between NOAA and some non-NOAA users help identify the data and communications architectures necessary for them to access NPP and JPSS data. These users also often share the environmental data from their respective satellite programs with NOAA. These users leverage the Suomi NPP and JPSS data to assist them in meeting their mission requirements. Although they have no official role in defining JPSS requirements, they often participate in requirements discussions, and have similar requirements as the NOAA Line Offices. They provide key insights which help better define requirements and assist in understanding how program requirements can guide acquisition decisions.

International Users

JPSS also supports the international user community by providing weather and oceanic data to our partners overseas. Operational forecasting relies heavily upon NOAA's polar-orbiting satellite data on a global scale and JPSS will continue to foster and promote this relationship into the future.
